Avoid these mistakes if you want to automate your production

Whether it’s stacking pallets, gluing parts or sorting boxes: are you considering automating simple, repetitive tasks in your production line so that you can deploy your valuable skilled staff where you need them most?

Dann Achtung! Denn viele Betriebe scheitern an diesen beiden Fehlern:

Many people think that if they start by automating the part of the production line with the most movement – such as packaging or assembly – they will achieve the greatest impact.

The problem is that if you start in the middle of the production process, you have to modify adjacent equipment, reconfigure interfaces and, in many cases, install additional camera systems, sensors or grippers to ensure that components are correctly identified and positioned.

This is not only extremely labour-intensive, but also costs a great deal of time and money.

When it comes to automation, most businesses simply fall back on what they are already familiar with: pneumatic grippers, simple pushers or PLC-controlled in-house solutions developed by the maintenance department.
Whilst this works to some extent, it does not solve the actual problem:
This is because the process then runs only semi-automatically; skilled staff still have to make adjustments, prepare materials or correct errors.

In other words: the skilled workers whom you actually wanted to deploy for more important tasks then have to remain at the machine.

How to make your automation a success

So that you can finally deploy your skilled staff where they’re really needed, …

… start by automating the simplest process in your production workflow.

It’s best to start at the beginning or end of your production line – in other words, where components are fed in or taken out.
This is because an automated feeding or removal process can be integrated into existing systems much more easily and quickly, and immediately reduces the workload on your staff. At the same time, you avoid costly and time-consuming modifications.

… use reliable technology that does not require manual operation.

Automation only brings you real benefits if it operates flawlessly and does not tie up staff on a permanent basis.
That is exactly what robotics achieves. A cobot, for example, uses sensors or camera systems to recognise workpieces and can grip, position or stack them independently, without a member of staff having to operate it manually.
Unlike humans, a cobot doesn’t need breaks and can therefore operate continuously.
For you, this means that, with the help of robotics, you can boost your productivity and, from now on, deploy your skilled staff to more important tasks.

Conclusion: To automate your production profitably, you need two things:

You get both with Samsys.

Your benefits:

Robots reliably take over monotonous tasks in multi-shift operations. Your machines run for longer, downtime is reduced, and you can process significantly more orders in the same amount of time.

Automated processes create structure: production times become predictable, lead times are reduced, and bottlenecks in the flow of materials can be identified at an early stage and avoided.

Our systems are designed for continuous operation. We supply most spare parts ourselves, as well as carrying out maintenance and repairs. Depending on the work involved, it usually takes just a few hours for your system to be up and running again, should any problems arise in the rare event that they do.

Routine tasks are automated, allowing skilled staff to be deployed in more important roles. As a result, many systems pay for themselves within a few months.

All systems are modular in design and can be expanded or adapted to new products as required, without you having to invest in a completely new system.

Every step in the process is carried out with consistent precision. Errors caused by human fatigue or lapses in concentration are completely eliminated, whilst rework and scrap are measurably reduced.

Mitarbeiter von Samsys führt ein Beratungsgespräch.

Samsys GmbH has been developing automation technology for industry for more than 40 years. It all began with short-bar bar feeders – systems that automate the flow of material to CNC machines and remain part of our core business to this day.

Over time, however, we began to attract more and more customers who wanted not just a feeding system, but fully automated production processes. So we gradually familiarised ourselves with robotics, starting with simple loading and unloading solutions, and later moving on to palletizing, bin picking and mobile robot systems.

Today, we develop and build complete automation systems that can be seamlessly integrated into existing production lines – whether for standardised applications or customised solutions. Our aim is always the same: to make production processes simpler, more efficient and more cost-effective.

We are open to a wide variety of enquiries, particularly when there is no standard solution. New technical challenges are part of our day-to-day work, and that is often precisely what makes our work so appealing: developing a solution that did not exist before and that ultimately works reliably.
